Simple question. This can apply to religious or non-religious people alike.

Discuss.

I believe in love more than anything religious, unless you call that religious... maybe spiritual.

The reason I don't run around killing everyone, or do crazy drugs, etc., is that I know it won't accomplish anything. I'd say that's my only core belief- everything I do must accomplish something, preferably entertaining myself without hurting myself. As to where that comes from, I'd say the low level programming in my brain- I have a constructive impulse.

I believe in hate more than anything, period. I've always seen love as a rationalization for sex in a somewhat puritan society. That's not to say I don't love my mother- but when a girl and guy "love" one another, I don't buy it.

I agree, love is so overrated. Love is just the feeling ment to guide lifeforms to mate.

As for me i believe what i believe based on logic, i compare all the observations around me and use logic to create new information from it.

You might be contradicting yourself there.

Well, I initially thought this thread was more directed towards religion/atheist, but I guess I'm wrong.

Well, technically running around killing people, doing drugs, etc can acomplish things...

I'm sorry you hold that view.

How so? The love for somone like my mother is real. I suppose that came out a little wrong:) . You see, I believe in two kinds of love- the real, true feeling that is an attachment to somone, and the feelings that two people making out on the bench in front of my dorm are experiencing. I just don't accept the concept of romance, or romantic love, because that definately is not what the guy/girl pairs I see have, or what the marriges I have seen lead to. I just don't think it happens in the real world.

Oh, see i though you ment that love is just a bunch of programmed emotions. But ya true love like that happens.

You sound like a heart broken puppy.:p

I don't believe "either way" when it comes to evolution/creationalism. I think either is possible. I do believe in God though.

I don't think that emotions are logical. I mean, if you love someone and that person dies, it is logical to move on, not to try and hang on. But I don't know. If God exists, maybe he has a different point of view.

Assuming 'love' is an evolutionary trait, it must be beneficial. Perhaps we'd be more likely to succeed at passing our genes if we had some great devotion to our co-procreator and our offspring. That's obvious, is it not? Therefore, emotions are justified, be they logical or not.

Exactly, good way to put.

Although I do agree with your post, I have my own reservations.
