View Full Version : Stem Cell Research
Specter, on the Senate floor, said that there were about 400,000 unused embryos in the country, while only 138 "snowflake" babies had been born. "If they could be used to create human life, I would not in the slightest way contend they should be used for scientific research," he said.
As the Senate began debate Monday, the White House said formally what the president has suggested for months: that Bush would veto the bill because the research involves destroying human embryos.

Looks like President Bush is trying to stop science and society from advancing once again...
What are your thoughts on stem cell research?

Cord blood. Or embryoes. I think either is fine.

Here in misery (Missouri for those who don't know), when the state legislature reconvenes, they are going to put forth a ridiculous bill. It will be a FELONY to research using embryonic stem cells, or to recieve treatment from said research. The governor has been quoted as saying the bill won't be vetoed. Chalk up another win for Team Bush, while I look for a new place to call home. If I can find links, I'll put them up.

Here's the administration and its goons manufacturing another vote (like flag burning, gay marriage, and other knee-jerk news stories)

Yes, for both reasons.
The government shouldn't be trying to legislate science.

The government shouldn't be trying to legislate science.
When the government steps in to the scientific realm, there is very little good that is done. So, as Bush tries to step in to this world of stem cell research, he is impairing technology that could someday save millions of lives. With disease on the rise worldwide (which affects everybody), Bush essentially has two options: cure the people who have the diseases, or cure the root of the cause. I have not yet seen Bush do either, he is working against both by not allowing the US to give more money to Africa and is working against the second case by vetoing stem cell research. Like I said before, Bush cannot see the future and is unworthy of being labeled a good president.

Did you see that rediculous presentation by the Republican senator about "eggs"?
Ugh, back to the dark ages for a while.

Last time I looked congress overruled Bush and they are going through the process of legalizing it. I am against abortion but Stem cells are definantly a necessity of the human race.
